Dear Perpetrators

Dear Perpetrators,

I would like to introduce myself. I am a social work student about to graduate in just a few months. In the course of time in my education and my job, I have saw so much trauma inflicted on so many individuals. Even outside of education and jobs we see it all around us in the people in our communities, our neighbors, friends, and fellow grocery shoppers. I write this letter to you with a heavy but loving heart.

There are so many things that I want to tell you. I want to tell you how you make people feel, how you ruin so many people’s lives with your actions, how you make adults and children go through so much trauma. More than that, I want to tell you that you are a child of God. You are loved by God, even with the sins you have committed you are loved.

I hope that if you can identify with anything in the following parts of this letter that you will really try to view your actions from a different perspective then your own.

Do you know that every single time you abuse someone physically, mentally, sexually, or however, you are branding the memory in their head for forever? Do you know that your actions cause people to have Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)? Every time the door slams, she jumps out of her skin. Every time she see’s someone that looks the least bit similar to you she panics and cries in fear. Every time she closes her eyes at night she does not see sugar plums and fairies, she see’s all of the times you have harmed her. She see’s you hunting her down and finding her. Do you know that the people you harm experience severe trauma? They have to receive therapy, have intense support from family, and so much more. Do you even realize how you act? Do you realize that you yourself could probably use some sort of mental health help? Seriously, try it out. It would benefit your life. And you need that because aren’t you miserable hurting people every single day? Aren’t you miserable blowing up all of the time? Where is the joy in these things?

Perpetrators all around the world, you may have hurt us. You may have traumatized us. You may have left physical or invisible wounds on us. But you have not conquered. You never will. There is a hope far greater than anything this world can offer and because of that fact alone every single time we are afraid we can put our trust in Him. God is always right there with us and you just aren’t great enough to get over on God. He is supernatural, He is sovereign, and His love is not only for me but it is for you. And because of His power, we can be healed. Because He has gave people talent in means of helping the hurting, the traumatized, the afflicted for this reason.

So, leave her alone. Don’t go near her. Or him. Do not make contact with them. Give her a chance to try and heal from the trauma you’ve put her through. Give her a chance to enjoy the rest of her life. Find healing for yourself.

You know what? No matter what you have done stole a cookie from a cookie jar or left marks all over your spouse and inflicted long time PTSD on your children, you are never so far away that you cannot reach God’s love. You have a chance at forgiveness, salvation, and His love. You just have to ask, let Him in, grow a relationship with Him. I am not saying you are free of your consequences, but I am saying that you could have an eternity somewhere far greater.

All of you all around the world, I am praying for the people you have hurt that they will find healing and prosperity. I am praying for you as well, that you will change your life to live for Christ. I am praying you will seek help and guidance because you cannot make this change alone and I am praying that when you choose to make this change that you will be faithful to it, that you will have support, and that you will enjoy the rest of your life on this Earth in a way that Christ sees as acceptable.

Romans 6:23  “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Sincerely,

Hannah
